Pets don't HAVE to do anything.... or how about this... They keep you company... that's doing something...
Or hows about you do something for the animal... Say you got in from a shelter or something or some other place where it would be put to sleep or something if it stayed there too long... It makes some people feel good...
Or you could be like my brother... "Oh no, small dogs suck... they're just like rats... what I need is a big MANLY dog"...
Pets aren't just about being playful or being your little helper/slave...
