Even in winter it's not soo bad that you couldn't go outside for the game, that and if you really wanted too there are lights that produce a sort of "sun like" quality enough to charge a solar battery. Something like a heat lamp or to the effect of that  |

It wouldn't be a beta. It would be an early translation version, because the japanese version has been out for a while.
It's well past beta-testing. |

It can still be an American beta version... just like there was an American FFXI Beta Version, even though the game was already out in Japan. But it doesn't matter anyway... the point is that he received an early version of the game, whether or not it is technically a beta version. |
