Given the chance to vote I'd actually vote McKeon for manager of the year over Baker. Took a team that had been 10 under .500 (7 under when he took over) and led them to the NLCS.
Take it from someone who's seen over 150 cubs games this year, Dusty's been great, but the real reason the Cubs are where they are is GM Jim Hendry.
Here's his moves so far.
Traded TODD FRICKEN HUNDLY for Eric Kerros and Mark Grudz-a-whatever
Traded 2nd base prospect bobby hill and some no name A-ball pitchers for Kenny Lofton and Armanes Ramerez
Traded another no namer for Randal Simon
Traded another no namer for Doug Glanville
Signed relievers Mike Remlenger, Dave Veres, Mark Guthre and starter Sean Estes (Remlenger is the only one of those 4 that's still pitching well, but we would not have made the playoffs without Guthre or Veres, and Estes won 8 games as a starter.)
Signed catchers Damion Miller and Paul Baco (yeah, ok, so he almost signed Ivan Rodreguez, which would have been GREAT, but Miller and Baco were 100 times better than the platoon of Hundly and Girardi last year).
People wonder why this Cubs team isn't playing like a typical Cubs team, that's exactly it right there, it's NOT a typical Cubs team, it's a team that was built to win NOW not in 5 years, which the Cubs have been trying to do forever.
