Re: Enter the Matrix
i thought that the game was ok, i would personally give it a 6.5/10, i had the PC version, and the graphics sucked ass, the gameplay i would agree is repetative, basicly all you do in every mission is fight fight fight, loading times were fast...controls were good...i wouldn't want to play the game more then once with each char.
i think i'm missing something there, but meh...
the only reason i wanted to finish the game was for the story behind it, because it shows what happens in-between The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded.

I played the Cube version, controls didn't fit in real well in my opinion. As for the bullet-time effects, yeah, they were nice, but no where near Max Payne's.
Just check out the trailer for the second game, that trailer spells out "shame" for Atari's Enter the Matrix.
|
You must be kidding. The first Max Payne (the only one I have played) had bullet-time that was put to shame by ETM. As for the second Max Payne, I can't judge what I haven't played, it looks good though. But I was not referring to Max Payne 2, I'm referring to "Max Payne" the first game, where bullet time just meant diving to the side in slow motion shooting. It's shooting in bullet time was cool, but it wasn't near as complex or fun as using it in ETM. I own both games and ETM's bullet time owns Max Payne's.

Ok, by repetitve, I basically mean doing the same crap over and over again... So you can put those 2 together. Let's see, go up to an enemy, disarm, kill. That's all I did for the normal parts of the game.
As for the car driving and shooting, big deal! Driving that car and losing on that stage annoyed me rather than making me have a good time. Shooting from the cars in a game with barely any freedom is not really fun for my taste.
Hacking was just entering codes... That was a unique way of entering codes, I'll give it that, but big freakin deal, it didn't really add much to the game's fun factor.
And please, don't get me started with the ship. There is absolutely nothing fun with bumping into walls...
|
I agree with your distaste for the Driving and ship levels. But the game isn't repetitive. Like it or not, every level has its differences. Different objectives, Different weapons, and at many points a completely different style of gameplay. Not to mention a great story that ties in with one of the greatest movies of all time.

Nope, my PS2 wasn't working at the time, so I had to play it on my Gamecube. Not a lot of Gamecube games out there have long loading times (barely any), but Enter the Matrix took forever to load and save. As for the Xbox version, well, thank Microsoft for installing a HD along with the Xbox.
|
True, the cube version did have the longest save times. It also had the least amount of bugs.

I would have preferred something much better from Shiny's $30 million game. Everything in Max payne (especially the fighting style) was much better in my opinion. Also, even a 2D game like Viewtiful Joe knows how to handle Slow motion/bullet-time effects properly with a fighting style much better than Enter the Matrix.
|
I didn't know shooting a gun while diving to the side was a fighting style. I have never played VJ.

Maybe the "repetitve gameplay" and "doing the same crap" were almost the same reason, but everything else I said in my opinion is true. Almost everyone agrees with me, so that should prove that I am not alone. Look at the reviews for this game, that's what I call a shame. Also, I can see that you're a hardcore Matrix fan... I love the Matrix, I think it's the single coolest idea for a movie, but the game for it just sucks in many ways. The only reason this game sold more copies than it did and the only reason some people like this game is the fact that it has The Matrix in it.
|
I agree. But that's like saying the only reason Zelda: WW sold well is because Link was the main character, or the only reason Gamecube sold and Dreamcast didn't is because Sega made one and Nintendo made the other. Yes, licensing is important, but do you think this game would sell if they took some of the features out of the game like the 1hr of film? The Matrix license pushed it to a point and the Movie within the game pushed it more. They could have easily made a Matrix game with Niobe and Ghost that wouldn't have sold half as much. They did a lot better work with that license than they could have. I (along with others) purchased the game for its content, not because the name matrix was pasted on it.
I'd rather not use reviews when talking about this game, because even you know that the range of scores this game got was from 3/10 to 8/10. It ranged from people who were disgusted by it to people who generally liked it. You are probably one of those 3/10 guys, and I'm one of the 8/10 guys. Who knows.

Well, if you don't enjoy flying through rings and bad controls then I hope you die!

No... I would probably give it a 5 out of 10. Although I wasn't to fond of the game, it wasn't the worst game out there. I love the Matrix, but the game went over $30 million for development, and for that, it ended up being a quick one time trip of game in my opinion. $30 million! Not a lot of games go over $30 million, but from what the game sold, I guess Shiny and Atari got their profit.
It's true that each level has its own objectives and such, but there was nothing in those mission objectives that interested me. But hey, that's my opinion, every game has some fans, yes...even Superman 64.
I can't wait for Revolutions, but as for the next Matrix game that comes out (if another one does ever come out), I think I'll pass unless the game is much more improved than the first one.

Re: Enter the Matrix
i'm not sure wheather it'll be improved, but it is a new developer (Ubisoft), so at least you can be sure it'll be different.
