I have a problem:

I have an AMD Athlon, which needs a good cooler.
So I have a good cooler, the problem is just: It's making so much noise!
Even when I'm only playing music, the cooler is at full speed, while I don't think it has to because I'm not asking much of the processor.

Is there a way to change the speed (/noise) of the cooler by software?? Thanks

I think there is software that can do it, but changing fan speeds in an OS isn't safe if the fan/heatsink/mobo doesn't support it I think. Me personally, I would invest in a throttle thing that you can either put on the front or the back of the case that allows you to control the speed of the fan.

Or if you have money to spare, find a heatsink that comes with a throttle (like Ace's except on the front of the case)

But if anyone else wishes to clarify on what I said, by all means, go ahead. I'm not 100% sure, but its the best I can do right now....

Jon is right there is software to adjust the fan speed. But the deal is when you lower the fan speed you run the risk of overheating the processor. If you want to have your computer run quieter look into whisper quiet fans ect. or water cooling
