Why I Left WoW

I thought the game was great fun and still do.

I thought the game was boring, slow, and too big. I got bored before I could ever get in-depth simply because it takes a f-cking hour to get anywhere. Highest I ever had was a level 8 troll shaman.

Thank God for WarCraft 3. I play that game everyday.

It's obvious that the MMORPG genre is not for you. WoW is actually the fastest leveling and most technically impressive MMORPG that I've played. Its quest driven gameplay beats the living sh*t out of level grinding.

You didnt play City of Heroes when Powerlevel'ing was at its worst point, heh. I think the fastest I heard someone went from 1-50 was in 27 hours (lots and lots of herding)

whenever this happens I always tend to regress to older RTS and older games. When I get tired of Raven Shield, I play Ghost Recon and my love for the game is rekindled. I got tired of Generals and went back to the classic C&C Gold, and was really fun for me to go back to.

EDIT: I forgot my suggestion........ go back to an older WoW and pwn in that game. I always go from UT2004 to 2003 and have so much fun playing classic games.

Maybe its not, but I actually think that there are still more than a few faults in the MMORPG genre as a whole. Whether WoW is the best there is (it is the best I've played) or not, there are some problems with the game.

Looking back on my comments, I think the its the time it takes to play and get anywhere in the upper levels that bothers me the most. Travel time is a killer. Also, people say how much easier it is to solo in WoW than other MMO's, but what constitutes "easy"? I'd spend an hour just trying to get a decent group for an instance dungeon.

Having to commit so much time to any game to make a miniscule amount of progress is rediculous to say the least, IMO. Hard-core gamer or not, after hour 4 of not killing anything I start to get antsy in the pantsy. Also, if I never see one more idiot dwarf dancing naked in the auction house I'll be happy as hell.

One other thing that bugged me was how difficult communication was for the most part. I know that there are voice programs available, but few use them. All the stopping to type and trying to communicate during a battle was frustrating. If voice com becomes more commonplace in the future, I might give MMO's another shot.

I remember the D2 days...those were sad times. I had friends that would have turned down sex to acquire rare items. I was fortunate to get the game a year or two after everyone stopped playing it, and I was still on 56k I believe…so I didn’t play online.

If time wasn’t such a factor, I might have bought WoW. But the thing is, I got stuff to do. In retrospect, I think the reason why Half-Life multiplayer has been in my repertoire for 5+ years is because you can play it for 15 minutes, or for 7 hours.

WoW seems like a fun, huge game. But I gotta be honest, I can't commit.
