Because you can turn off your computer anytime you want. Your connection stays on as long as you are connected. So, you could unplug it when your not using it if you are worried about viruses/hackers. Otherwise it will be on whenever your computer is on.

while your computer is off you should really worry about viruses or hackers. But you should get a firewall weither software or hardware you need one for an always on connection.. But hardware are better than software firewalls

true but on cisco routers you have to program them but I'm not too sure on the rest but I'm going to assume it's the same
